plagiarism checker.

Turnitin checks if you copied someone. APEAS checks if your paper is actually good — verifying references, detecting fabricated citations, scoring scientific methodology, and flagging ethics issues. Complementary tools for different problems.

// faq
// Does APEAS replace Turnitin?

No — and we're not trying to. Turnitin checks if text was copied from other sources. APEAS checks if your references are real, your methodology is sound, and your writing quality meets academic standards. They answer different questions. Use both.

// Is the AI detection score as accurate as GPTZero or ZeroGPT?

Our ai_detection agent is calibrated per academic field — a CS paper looks different from a sociology paper. Most tools use a single global threshold. We apply field-specific rubrics, which reduces false positives on domain-specific writing.

// Can I trust APEAS if I don't know which AI models it uses?

We publish our model choices: Google Gemini 2.5 Flash for standard agents, Claude Haiku 4.5 for tool-use agents (reference verification). Organisations with stricter requirements can run APEAS on local models (Ollama/vLLM) with zero data leaving their network.

// What about iThenticate for researchers?

iThenticate is excellent for text similarity and is used by most major journals via Crossref Similarity Check. If your institution or journal requires it, use it. APEAS is the layer on top: after confirming your text is original, use APEAS to verify your references aren't fabricated and your statistics check out.
